Truck Driving


PDI’s Truck Driver Certificate Training Program can get you ready for the long haul! Developed for beginning drivers or those who have minimal commercial driving experience, this course will get you ready to roll.

Program Type

Program Requirements

Must have a valid Illinois license in order to get trucker’s permit.

  • Driver’s license must be good for the six months that your trucker’s permit is in effect. If not, license must be renewed in time for class to start (a week or two before class is recommended) so that you can get your trucker’s permit. Students must have permit to get behind the wheel when you are out on any road. Most students get their permit in the first week of class.
  • All driver’s tickets and child support must be paid in order to get a permit. (A State of Illinois requirement).

Must have a certified birth certificate or a passport.

  • A certified birth certificate is one from the county courthouse where you were born and it must be an original. If student does not have one, student must get a replacement a week or two before class starts.

Must be able to pass the IDOT physical and drug screen.

***Note: Felonies or bad driving records may keep a person from getting a good job but will not preclude anyone from taking the course.

Orientation, CDL Permit Study, Endorsement Study, Job Procurement, Log Boo Hours of Service, Map reading, Trip Planning, DOT Regulations, Hazard Perception, Night Operation, Extreme Driving Conditions, Railroad Crossing Safety, Accident Reports, Double Trailers

Yard and Road Skills: Pre-Trip Inspection, Couple/Uncouple, Straight Backing, 45 Degree Backing, 90 Degree Backing, Parallel Parking, Blindside Backing, Serpentine Backing, S Shifting, Double Clutching, Turns, Hazard Perception, Uphill/Downhill, Ramps, Lane Changes, Space Management, Secretary of State Class A Skill Test

Requirements:

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Must be able to meet physical requirements and drug screen (determined by Fed Dept of Transportation)
  • Certified birth certificate or passport
  • Drivers under 21 are limited to driving within State of IL
